In Glimpses: World Quality Month celebrations at Dr. Ziauddin Hospital

World Quality Month is observed in many places, simultaneously with World Quality Day & Week.  The week is observed from November 7th to 11th; a time for quality campaign and highlighting dedications, quality projects, case studies and real time related activities.

 A peek in past – In 1990, the United Nations (UN) recognized World Quality Day as a way to safeguard and build reputations while also nurturing effectiveness for every nation and its organizations.  In 2008, the first World Quality Day took place in United Kingdom (U.K.), London and since then, every year, the theme of World Quality Day is announced. The theme changes each year focusing on a specific subject, decided by the Chartered Quality Institute (C.Q.I.).

The determination of the Month is to raise quality awareness and provide support to individuals and organizations for the accomplishment of prosperity, not only accepting high-quality standard but also implementing it and focusing on getting the best results. Therefore, World Quality Month is a chance to reinforce an organization’s foundation and emphasize on the importance of quality.

In the same path and direction for strengthening systems, Dr. Ziauddin Hospital has an intense quality management consideration, taking the privilege to have customized synergies between quality management and sustainable development.

Keeping up the spirit of World Quality Month, this year as every year, the Department of Quality Assurance at Dr. Ziauddin Hospital enthusiastically celebrated all the success aligned with quality.  The hospital campuses were fully caught up and involved in participating in lively competitions; the Digital Poster & 5 –S i.e. sort, set in order, shine, standardize, sustain – in which organizations can create a clean, well ordered, and disciplined work environment, also departments shared new quality ideas and discussion on different quality cases & projects, looking ahead  at the brighter side.

The Quality Month welcomed a wonderful session wrapped up with a bow, conducted on November 12th 2022 as per this year’s theme “Quality conscience: Doing the right thing". A house full of audience gathered at Dr. Ziauddin Hospital, not only in-house participation, but interested people from other hospitals and institutions coming in together as quality conscious people.  They were there to listen valuable talks and speeches of renowned speakers; leaders par excellence.

Prof. Dr. Hyder as the key note speaker, emphasized on having a consistent attitude towards gaining excellence, and once it comes- by - quality gets into action naturally, it is the key to success. Dr. Mir Uzair Hashmi C.E.O Healthcare Management Consultants inspired the viewers by his wonderful presentation on the theme of the day, he said ethics and Integrity goes hand in hand and it has a great connection with quality. To meet the challenges concerning the propagation of quality and having a well-timed performance, embracing change is essential, upon the same reflection, Dr. Rameez Khalid, Associate Professor School of Business Studies shared some important aspects of change management as a vital key to sustain the culture of quality. Expert insights and perspectives were given by Prof. Dr. Haris Rashid Chair General Surgery, Prof. Dr. Adnan.A.Jabbar Chair Oncology and Dr. Usman Ali, A. Director Clinical labs & Consultant Pathologist at Dr. Ziauddin Hospital & University.

The take- home message is Quality improvement is destined for enhancing safety, effectiveness, and efficiency. We need to focus on persistently upgrading our activities while performing our duties. Advancement pulls us out from incompetent and disorganized outmoded concepts, which at times goes on a traditional static mode.  For having quality in all fields - positive aspects of change should be incorporated for a concurrent and successful change.
