Islamabad: Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa said that “Interference by executive in affairs and judicial workings of judges will not be tolerated” following controversy over alleged interference in judicial affairs by country’s intelligence apparatus.

Remarks were made in press release from Supreme Court after second full court meeting in aftermath of meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

An informed source told that yesterday’s full court sitting had considered initiating suo motu proceedings under Article 184(3) of Constitution in light of letter, but no final decision was taken in this regard.

“CJP clearly stated that interference by executive in affairs and judicial workings of judges will not be tolerated and under no circumstances can independence of judiciary be allowed to be compromised.”

Narrating chronology of current issue, press release said CJP had received letter from IHC judges on Tuesday and called meeting with IHC CJ Aamer Farooq and all his subordinate judges same day “Considering gravity of allegations levelled in said letter”.

In resolute stand against encroachments on judicial independence, Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa reaffirmed sanctity of judiciary, declaring that under no circumstances would autonomy of judges be compromised.

His remarks came during crucial meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at Supreme Court earlier today, attended by Federal Minister for Law Azam Nazeer Tarar and Attorney General for Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan.
