KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians’ Central Spokesperson and Member of National Assembly Shazia Marri distributed house certificates to 372 flood-affected women in a grand ceremony in Taluka Khipro.

Local elected representatives, Deputy Commissioners and members of civil society attended the ceremony. Speaking on the occasion, Shazia Marri said that the flood victims are being provided with dignified housing with ownership rights so that they can take steps towards restoring their lives.

She said that 2.1 million houses have been constructed by the Sindh government so far and all these houses are being provided to the affected families under the “Sindh Peoples Housing for Flood Affectees” scheme.

Shazia Marri said that the Pakistan Peoples Party is on a mission of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, who always wanted to see women empowered and independent. He said that the Benazir Income Support Program is still a strong support for millions of deserving families and the PPP's vision is to economically empower the disadvantaged sections of society.

He emphasized that the Sindh government, following the orders of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, is giving top priority to the construction of houses for flood victims. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's vision is to provide a dignified roof to every affected family and no one should be left homeless.

Shazia Marri said that President Asif Ali Zardari is also carrying forward the vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and various steps have been initiated especially for the empowerment of women. She added that the Pakistan People's Party is the only party in the country that has always been the voice of the poor, oppressed and backward classes and has taken practical steps to protect their rights.

At the end of the ceremony, the women who received their certificates expressed their gratitude and said that the PPP and the Sindh government have cured their sufferings and now they will start life with new hope.
