President condemns acts of desecration of Holy Quran in Denmark, Netherlands

ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi strongly condemned recent acts of desecration of Holy Quran in Denmark and Netherlands.

In statement, he said that these heinous acts have hurt sentiments of Muslims all over world. Such incidents are provocative and indicate rising Islamophobia in world.

President said freedom of speech is not name of hate speech and inciting people to violence. He said that desecration acts are contrary to internationally recognised norms and principles of legitimate expression of freedom of expression. He said that Islam preaches peace and brotherhood to humanity.

President Arif Alvi urged international community to take practical measures against Islamophobia and discourage extremist elements. He also stressed need for practical steps to promote tolerance, interfaith harmony and dialogue.

Meanwhile, President has telephoned and condoled with families of two security personnel martyred in recent terror attack in Dera Ismail Khan.

President contacted father of Havaldar Azhar Iqbal and brother of Naik Muhammad. He paid glowing tributes to those who rendered their lives for sake of country. Commiserating with bereaved families, President also prayed for departed souls.
