ISLAMABAD: Case of alleged assets beyond means against former DG ISI Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hamid was referred to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) few weeks back.

Informed sources in NAB confided NAB Rawalpindi office had received file containing complete details of Lt Gen (retd) Hamid’s income tax record and two-page complaint signed by some unknown locals from Chakwal, requesting initiation of inquiry against ex-DG ISI.

Sources said that DG NAB considered file and after consultation with his seniors, case was returned with direction that formal request be made to Bureau by authorities concerned.

According to sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also knew about whole episode. Now with appointment of new NAB Chairman Lt Gen (retd) Nazir Ahmed Butt, case is expected to be referred back to NAB for initiation of formal proceedings against former top spymaster.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah earlier said that investigation agencies were conducting an inquiry against Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hamid and media would be duly updated on progress of case.

Maryam stressed need for exemplary punishment for Hamid to ensure that no one dared play any “Unconstitutional role” in future.
