ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has emphasized the need to enhance trade and economic collaboration between Pakistan and Oman, calling for stronger engagement to benefit both nations.

He made these remarks during a meeting with the Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Pakistan, Mr. Fahad Sulaiman Khalaf Alkharusi, at Aiwan-e-Sadr.

During the discussion, both sides reiterated their commitment to deepening the long-standing, brotherly relations between the two countries, which are rooted in common religion, culture, and shared values. President Zardari noted that increased high-level exchanges and closer leadership ties would further solidify the already warm relationship between Pakistan and Oman.

The President particularly stressed the importance of expanding economic cooperation. He highlighted Pakistan's eagerness to boost trade and attract Omani investment in key sectors such as information technology, construction, energy, healthcare, and food security.

He added that greater collaboration at the government-to-government level could pave the way for more dynamic private-sector partnerships, ultimately contributing to sustainable economic growth for both sides.

President Zardari also acknowledged the valuable support Oman has extended to Pakistan, particularly its backing of Pakistan's candidacy for a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council for the 2025-2026 term. He expressed appreciation for this gesture, which reflects the trust and goodwill between the two nations. Furthermore, the President thanked Oman for hosting a large Pakistani community of over 400,000 individuals.

He praised the Pakistani diaspora for playing a key role in Oman's development and serving as an essential bridge of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting concluded with both leaders expressing their mutual desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation in multiple areas, especially trade, investment, and people-to-people ties. President Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to further enhancing its relations with Oman and exploring new opportunities for economic engagement.
