Sindh schools to remain closed on Aug 26

KARACHI: All educational institutes in Karachi and rest of province will be closed on account of chehlum of Imam Hussain (RA). All public and private schools across Sindh will remain closed on Monday (August 26), provincial government announced.

Notification issued for announcement of chehlum holiday stated that decision of educational institutes’ closure was taken by steering committee of provincial education department.Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) will be observed on Monday across province with religious zeal and reverence amid high security.

Meanwhile,  government imposed ban on pillion riding across province on chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA). According to notification issued by Home Department, pillion riding ban has been imposed to maintain peace as well as law and order during chehlum set to be observed on Monday, August 26.

However, ban shall not be applicable on women, children below age of 12 years, senior citizens, differently abled persons, journalists and personnel of law enforcement agencies and private security agencies in uniform and employees of essential services.

In addition to ban on pillion riding, Sindh government has prohibited use of drones, citing security concerns during chehlum. Home Department maintained that ban has been imposed on recommendation of Sindh Inspector General of Police.

Citizens have been advised to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure peaceful observances of chehlum.
