SSWMB, Climate action center discuss Climate Week Karachi 2026

KARACHI: Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) held a constructive meeting with the Climate Action Center to discuss environmental improvement in Karachi. During the meeting, proposals were presented for organizing Climate Week Karachi 2026.
The delegation of the Climate Action Center met Managing Director of SSWMB, Tariq Ali Nizamani. The meeting was attended by active and concerned citizens who are voluntarily working for environmental improvement in the city.
While chairing the meeting, MD SSWMB Tariq Nizamani appreciated the vision and initiatives of the Climate Action Center members. He highlighted the importance of citizen-led actions in achieving better environmental results and stressed that meaningful and sustainable improvement in waste management can be achieved through strong cooperation between government institutions and responsible citizens.
During the meeting, Environmental Consultant Farhan Lodhi gave a detailed presentation on SSWMB’s performance. The presentation covered the board’s mandate, ongoing projects, key achievements, and the operational and other challenges faced in managing solid waste in a large city like Karachi. After the presentation, participants discussed joint proposals and future strategies.
Members of the Climate Action Center presented proposals for celebrating Climate Week Karachi 2026. They shared that Habib University, various city-based NGOs, Women Art Hub, WWF, CBER, IBA, Kitab Ghar, and other educational institutions and NGOs are already on board for these initiatives.
MD SSWMB invited the Climate Action Center members to become active partners in this collective effort to improve Karachi’s environmental conditions. He assured full support for the mutually agreed initiatives and emphasized continuous coordination, information sharing, and collaboration to promote sustainable solid waste management practices across the city.
At the end of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to work together for a clean, healthy, and sustainable Karachi.
