Karachi: Sindh Minister Labour Saeed Ghani inaugurated 30-day 50th Pakistan Life Style Furniture expo exhibition at Karachi Expo Centre. Event was attended by government bodies, leading businesspersons, Karachi Chamber of Commerce, members of Assembly, stakeholders of furniture industry.

Top 70 Furniture brands of Pakistan Zero Health Care Pakistan, Interwood, Habitt, The Roshans, Wajid Handicraft, NDF, Trendz, Siesta Interior, Uzma Curtain, Empire furnisher and Home Elements were major exhibitors. Director of Pakistan Lifestyle Furniture Expo said that import of furniture items could create a viable threat of unemployment in local furniture industry. Furniture industry in Pakistan has great potential as it can be both a labour intensive and capital-intensive sector. Skilled craftsmen can create unique pieces while large scale factories can produce many identical units in both cases adding to employment.

“He said local furniture industry has a great potential and there is only a need of patronisation of government”. Around 50,000 visited event. Visitors were able to enjoy special discount of up to 50 percent on different items exhibited at event. PLFE has become greatest source of business for furniture industry of Pakistan and played a leading role in growth of furniture brands. This exhibition also provided younger designers and architects to see market trends and display their own work alongside that of more established professionals.

Pakistan’s wood industry is well developed and captures 95 percent of country’s total market for furniture. Country has more than 700 units of wooden furniture with Chiniot, alone meets 80 percent of furniture demand in country, Gujarat, with world-class furniture, Peshawar, Lahore and Karachi being important centres.
