CM Murad, WB official decide to give seed, fertilizer to small growers

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah in consultation with World Bank (WB) has decided that small growers holding up to 12.5 acres of land would be given seed and fertilizer, otherwise Rs 5,000 per acre would be disbursed.

In a meeting with World Bank Regional Director John Roome who had come to inspect procedure put in place by government for conducting survey of small growers and households lost their houses in recent floods Murad Ali Shah said small growers could be registered in Management Information System (MIS) developed for purpose. Government with support of federal government has decided to disburse Rs 5,000 per acre among growers across board.

WB has pledged $ 100 million to disburse among growers. Bank has fixed ceiling of small growers holding 12.5 acres of land to give them Rs 5,000 per acre. CM told WB Regional Director that survey jointly being conducted by Board of Revenue and agriculture department would reveal number of small growers of 12.5 acres.

Construction of houses also came under discussion. CM said that Rs 50 billion had been approved to start housing project and operator/partner NGOs would be included in system within a week to disburse money among affected people. Sindh government and Bank have already agreed that Rs 50,000 would be given to each affected person to start construction of their houses.
