Deepika Padukone has long been an advocate for mental health, using her platform to raise awareness about depression.

In a recent appearance on “Pariksha Pe Charcha 2025,” she shared a deeply personal account of her own battle with depression. Reflecting on her journey, Deepika recalled a period when, after a busy schedule of school, sports, modeling, and acting, she suddenly collapsed in 2014. Soon after, she learned that she was suffering from depression. She emphasized how depression can be invisible, with many people silently enduring it while appearing fine on the outside. Deepika shared that for a long time, she didn’t open up about her condition, especially since she was living alone in Mumbai.

The turning point came when her mother visited and, after leaving, Deepika broke down. She confided in her mother, saying, “I don’t want to live anymore,” feeling overwhelmed by helplessness and hopelessness. Deepika was fortunate that her mother recognized her struggle and immediately contacted a psychologist. She encourages others to speak up about their mental health, stressing that sharing these burdens can make a difference. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also praised Deepika for her commitment to mental health, acknowledging her work in spreading awareness.
