KARACHI: Karimabad Ismailia Multipurpose Cooperative Society has come under scrutiny after alleged corruption and illegal activities were exposed by Daily National Courier reporter Ali Jan. Following his reporting, Ali Jan is now facing serious threats, harassment, and a targeted smear campaign.
Ali Jan has submitted a written complaint to his local police station as well as to the Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police. In the complaint, he stated that the society’s current director, Shamsheer Khan Qureshi, has repeatedly threatened to kill him. He also alleged that Shamsheer Khan is spreading false accusations against him through social media and WhatsApp groups and is inciting others to take action against him.
Ali Jan said he has strong evidence of these threats, including voice recordings and messages, which he is ready to share with the police or any relevant authority.
It is worth noting that Director, Shamsheer Khan Qureshi had previously admitted in the media to facilitating illegal constructions and giving bribes to certain institutions. A voice recording of this confession was also made public. These revelations triggered outrage among society members and raised serious concerns about transparency and governance.
In response, the members of the society have demanded urgent action from the Sindh government, the Cooperative Department, and law enforcement agencies. They are calling for legal action against Shamsheer Khan Qureshi and immediate dissolution of the current managing committee to ensure fair and transparent management of the society's affairs.
Ali Jan emphasized that this issue is not just about him but about the safety of all truth-telling journalists and citizens. He urged the IG Sindh to take immediate notice, ensure his protection, and take firm action against those involved in issuing threats to uphold press freedom and public accountability.
