The announcement of this year’s Oscar nominations has been postponed once again due to the devastating wildfires ravaging Los Angeles.

Originally scheduled for January 16, the nominations will now be revealed on January 23, with the Oscars voting period extended until January 17. The wildfires, which have burned over 27,000 acres in LA, have prompted the evacuation of more than 150,000 people, particularly after a fire ignited in the Palisades area on January 7. As a result, several Academy events, including screenings and the Academy Museum, have been impacted. In a joint statement, Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang expressed their devastation over the fires’ impact, acknowledging the profound losses in the community. “We are committed to standing together in the face of hardship,” they stated. They also emphasized the importance of providing members with additional time due to the ongoing crisis in the region.
