PPP marks 70th birth anniversary of Benazir Bhutto

Karachi: Pakistan Peoples' Party is observing 70th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. Ceremonies have been held in various parts of country where cakes were cut to mark day. Ceremony was held at Sindhi Adabi Board in Jamshoro district. PPP's senior leader and board chairman Makhdoom Saeeduz Zaman and Board of Governors member Sarfaraz Raja cut birthday cake.
Benazir studied at Harvard University and University of Oxford where she was President of Oxford Union. She served as 11th and 13th PM from 1988 to 1990 and from 1993 to 1996. She was first woman elected to head democratic government in Muslim-majority country.
In message, Former President Asif Ali Zardari said PPP should be steadfast on philosophy of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto must fulfill her dreams.
He said that aim of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto's politics was to end darkness of ignorance from country. She struggled throughout her life to liberate people from social and economic exploitation, he added.
Her son FM Bilawal pledged to follow her philosophy for supremacy of Constitution and Parliament.
He paid tribute to first elected woman PM of Islamic world and said that Dukhtar-e-Mashriq (Daughter of East) was ray of light for nation trapped in darkness.
