KARACHI: Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has addressed his future in international cricket, acknowledging that every player must eventually step away from the game. In an exclusive interview with Cricket Pakistan, Sarfaraz stated that he would retire when he felt the time was right.
"Every player has to say goodbye to cricket at some point. When I feel my time is up, I will leave the sport myself," he remarked. Reflecting on his childhood in Karachi's Buffer Zone, Sarfaraz expressed his deep connection to his neighborhood. "I still live in the same street where I was born.
The people there have always showered me with love and support," he said.
Sarfaraz credited the streets of Karachi for shaping his cricketing journey. "My cricket career started in those narrow lanes, and perhaps my future life will also be spent there," he added. He emphasized that his early days of street cricket laid the foundation for his professional achievements.
"The hard work and experiences from those early days are the secret behind my success," Sarfaraz stated. Despite his contributions to Pakistan cricket, Sarfaraz was left out of Quetta Gladiators' squad for the current Pakistan Super League (PSL) season. South African batter Rilee Rossouw took over as captain in the previous edition.
Sarfaraz last played a Test match in December 2024, while his final One Day International appearance was against South Africa in 2021. As he nears the twilight of his career, Sarfaraz remains focused on his love for the game and his bond with his hometown, leaving his retirement decision to his instincts and timing.
