Senior journalists term Iqbal Hussain's death a 'big loss' to journalism field

KARACHI: The soyem of Syed Iqbal Hussain, a senior journalist and member of the Karachi Union of Journalists and the husband of Sheher Bano, Editor of Supplements and Special Reports at The News, and Vice President Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists, was held at his residence in North Karachi.

Earlier, the funeral prayer for Iqbal Hussain took place on Saturday after the Zuhar prayer at Jamia Masjid Noor, North Karachi. Hussain died of cardiac arrest on Saturday night at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, where he was admitted since early February.  Hussain had been serving as the Associate Editor of Economic Outlook, a business magazine published under the Pakistan Press Foundation and Pakistan Press International.

People from all walks of life, including relatives and friends from the journalistic community, attended the funeral prayer and offered condolences at the soyem for Iqbal Hussain. With an extensive background in the financial sector, Hussain served as a senior Investment Officer at the Investment Corporation of Pakistan before transitioning to journalism 18 years ago at Pakistan Press International. He possessed expertise in bilingual translation among other skills in his field.

Following the news of his passing, messages of condolence poured in from politicians, journalists, bureaucrats, and members of civil society. Attendees paid their respect at the funeral prayers and soyem, while condolences arrived from abroad as well. Journalists termed Iqbal Hussain's death as a great loss to the field.

Notably, Mir Shakil-ur-Rehman, CEO of Jang Group, reached out from Dubai, along with Mir Ibrahim Rehman, CEO of Geo Network, Shahrukh Hassan, GME of Jang Group, Sarmad Ali, MD Marketing of Jang Group, Secretary General Pakistan Press Foundation PPF Awais Aslam Ali talked to the family of Hussain on phone. While Assistant Commissioner Faheem Khan, President Karachi Union of Journalists, Ejaz Ahmed, Pakistan Gender Coordinator of International Federation of Journalist Lubna Jerar Naqvi, senior journalists Rishad Mehmood and Nasir Shareef, and colleagues of the Hussain and Sheher Bano at The News and Pakistan Press Foundation, and others attended the funeral prayers and paid visit to the family at Hussain's residence. They expressed their condolences and assured the bereaved family of their full support. Syed Iqbal Hussain is survived by his wife, son, and daughter.
