SHC approves Karsaz accident suspect’s bail in drug case

KARACHI: Sindh High Court granted bail to female driver arrested in Karsaz road accident in drug case against surety bonds worth Rs 1 million.

Suspected woman, ran down daughter and father, 26-year-old Aamna Arif and 60-year-old Imran Arif in Karsaz car accident. According to law enforcement officials, woman who caused accident received an injury on her head and her CT scan was conducted at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Suspect was granted bail in murder case earlier this month after victims’ family pardoned her.

However, another case was lodged against suspect after Methamphetamine, aka crystal meth, was found in her blood and urine samples. At outset of today’s hearing, Farooq H Naek suspect’s counsel apprised court that his client had already secured bail in one of two cases lodged against her. He said that both sides have reached reconciliation.  “My client has been undergoing treatment from psychiatrist for years, it is also possible that some medicine has been given which is mentioned in medical report,” he added. In detailed verdict, SHC bench stated, “Even otherwise glance at chemical report reveals that applicant’s blood sample found no narcotic, sedative, psychoactive toxic or any other foreign compound/element in given sample. Urine sample given by applicant found that Methamphetamine (Ice) i.e. narcotic was detected sample, hence there appears to be contradiction between two reports (blood and urine) which makes this case of further inquiry.”

On August 19, woman suspect was detained and booked under rash driving and manslaughter charges after speeding luxury vehicle driven by her killed man and his daughter and injured two others on Karsaz Road.
