ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, chaired a meeting with a delegation from the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) at the Finance Division. The discussions focused on enhancing investment opportunities and strengthening financial institutions in Pakistan.

The MIGA delegation was led by Mr. Dilawar Bajauri, Senior Investment Guarantee Officer - Financial Institutions and Capital Markets, and Mr. Jae Kwon, Senior Underwriter - Head of South Asia Business Development. They highlighted MIGA's role in providing short-term credit guarantees, which complement the efforts of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in supporting private sector development.

During the meeting, the delegation emphasized MIGA's commitment to strengthening financial institutions and capital markets in Pakistan. They expressed confidence in the country's economic potential and reaffirmed their organization's interest in expanding operations in Pakistan, which is MIGA's first destination in Asia. The agency aims to facilitate foreign investment by mitigating political and financial risks, thereby encouraging greater investor confidence.

Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb reiterated Pakistan's commitment to fostering a favorable investment environment. He emphasized the government's efforts to implement economic reforms and policy measures that attract foreign direct investment (FDI) and enhance financial sector stability. The finance minister acknowledged MIGA's role in supporting investment and expressed hope for continued collaboration in advancing Pakistan's economic development.

Discussions also covered potential areas of cooperation, including risk mitigation strategies, capital market development, and financial sector growth. Both sides agreed on the importance of maintaining close coordination to ensure long-term economic sustainability and investment growth.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to strengthening economic ties, with MIGA playing a key role in facilitating foreign investment in Pakistan's financial sector.
