PM Shehbaz urges UN Chief for Kashmir dispute resolution

NEW YORK: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres and called for implementation of relevant Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir.

PM Shehbaz called on Antonio Guterres on sidelines of UN General Assembly Session here. Briefing Secretary General on situation in Jammu and Kashmir, he underscored Pakistan's serious concerns over India's egregious actions in occupied Valley and stressed upon need to resolve dispute to ensure lasting peace and stability in South Asia.

He condemned Israel's genocidal campaign against Palestinians and called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire. He urged international community to hold Israel accountable. He reaffirmed Pakistan's support for establishment of viable and sovereign State of Palestine.

He underscored need for stemming rising tide of Islamophobia and discrimination against Muslims worldwide. He reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to actively contribute towards international peace and security as non-permanent member of UN Security Council for year 2025-26.

Besides, Prime Minister welcomed initiative by UN Secretary General to organise 'Summit of Future' and expressed his hope that its outcome would help developing countries in bridging financial gap for implementation of SDGs and climate goals.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres thanked Prime Minister for Pakistan's active engagement at United Nations as well as for its role towards international peace and security in form of its UN's Peacekeeping force.
