Shakira could face eight years in prison after she was ordered to stand trial for a $ 21.5 million tax fraud. Authorities announced that after Hips Don’t Lie singer rejected a plea deal back in July over accusations over tax evasion, she could face some jail time.

Trial date has yet to be announced. A representative for Shakira said in a statement when case first made headlines: “Shakira has always cooperated and abided by law, demonstrating impeccable conduct as an individual and a taxpayer and faithfully following counsel of PriceWaterhouse Coopers, a prestigious and globally recognised tax firm.”

“Unfortunately, Spanish Tax Office, which loses one out of every two lawsuits with its taxpayers, continues to violate her rights and pursue yet another baseless case. “Shakira is confident that her innocence will be proven by end of judicial process.”–Agencies
